How an insurance claim works here
- Report the accident to your insurer and get a claim number.
- Bring the car in; the shop documents the damage with an estimate and photographs.
- The shop sends the adjuster what they request and follows up.
- Repairs start once the work is approved.
Your choice of shop
New York law does not allow an insurer to require repairs at a specific shop. An insurer may suggest shops, but the choice is yours.
Damage you cannot see
A collision can bend suspension parts and knock out the alignment. Because the shop also does mechanical repair and in-house alignments, it can check and fix those in the same visit.
